MBA vs Rebuy
AI-driven cross-sells and upsells, deeply integrated with Shopify checkout and post-purchase flows.
When MBA wins
You're on Shopify but prefer flat predictable pricing, you want the underlying rules to be auditable, or you're on WC/Magento too and want consistent infra across stores.
When Rebuy wins
You're a Shopify-only store, you want post-purchase + checkout upsells (not just FBT), and you'll pay 4-figure SaaS to capture that revenue lift.
Feature comparison
Color-striped rows favor MBA, Rebuy, or are even. We mark each so you can scan for the trade-offs that matter to you.
| Feature | MBA | Rebuy |
|---|---|---|
| Platforms supported | WooCommerce, Magento/Adobe Commerce, Shopify (in App Store review). | Shopify only. |
| Pricing predictability | Flat $49/mo per platform. No usage caps, no GMV-scaled billing. | Tiered by GMV. As your store grows, the Rebuy bill grows, independent of how much value the recommendations themselves added. |
| Checkout + post-purchase upsells | Currently FBT + cross-sell on product pages + bundle creation in admin. Checkout extension is on the roadmap. | Native Shopify Checkout Extension + post-purchase one-click upsell flows. Mature on this surface. |
| Recommendation logic transparency | Every rule has support / confidence / lift values you can inspect. You can override or suppress specific recommendations per opportunity. | ML model is the IP. You see what it suggests, not why it suggested it. |
| Agent / MCP access | MCP server + REST API for Claude Desktop, Claude Code, Cursor, OpenAI Agent SDK. AI agents can recommend bundles via the same data layer. | No first-class agent API. Their integrations are merchant-facing automations (Klaviyo, Shopify Flow), not agent-callable APIs. |
| Time to first value | 10-15 min install + first mining job. | Hours. Onboarding includes setup calls + flow design for upsells. |
| Bundle creation | Push as a real Shopify Bundle (productBundleCreate). Component products linked at checkout fulfillment. | Bundle-builder widget that aggregates products into a cart. Not a native Shopify Bundle product. |
| Brand visibility | Open architecture; your dev team can read every layer. | Top-of-mind brand for Shopify cross-sell; well-known to Plus-tier merchants. |

Rough cost comparison at representative store sizes. Real numbers from real procurement land within a wide band; this is the math we'd walk you through if you emailed and asked.
| Tier | MBA | Rebuy |
|---|---|---|
| Pre-launch / under $500K GMV | $49/mo flat (Shopify Pro tier) | Rebuy entry is around $99/mo at this tier; demo-gated for actual pricing MBA is roughly half the price at the smallest tier, and you get the MCP server + inspectable rules included. |
| $1M GMV / ~10K orders/year | $49/mo flat | Quote-gated, typically several hundred per month Rebuy's published tiers stop here; everything above is quote-only. |
| $4M GMV / ~40K orders/year | $49/mo flat | Quote-gated mid-market band, often $1,000 to $2,000+/mo with Smart Cart enabled This is the band where Rebuy's Smart Cart pays for itself if you're optimizing the checkout surface specifically. MBA stays flat. |
| $10M+ GMV / 100K+ orders/year | $49/mo flat | Enterprise pricing not public; Rebuy claims a $3.8B GMV portfolio served At this tier the difference becomes most stark on the bill, and most defensible for Rebuy on the capability mix (Hydrogen, Monetize, AI agent integrations). |
When to pick each, expanded
The above-the-fold version is one sentence each. Here are the full bullet lists.
Pick MBA when
- You run more than one storefront (Shopify + WooCommerce, Shopify + Magento, etc.) and want consistent recommendation data across them.
- You want flat predictable pricing that does not scale with GMV or impressions.
- You want the underlying rules auditable: support, confidence, lift exposed per recommendation, with one-click override.
- You're building agent workflows (Claude Code, Cursor, OpenAI Agent SDK) that need a real recommendation tool to call.
- You have a B2B or wholesale account-aware leg to your business that B2C-only Smart Cart cannot serve.
Pick Rebuy when
- You're Shopify-only and plan to stay there.
- Your primary surface for AOV lift is Shopify Checkout Extension + post-purchase, not PDP / cart bundle discovery.
- You want Hydrogen-compatible recommendation components out of the box.
- You're already over $4M GMV and the Smart Cart math works for your traffic shape.
- You want a mature partner ecosystem (Klaviyo flows, Shopify Flow triggers, Rebuy Monetize) more than you want flat pricing.
The honest verdict
Rebuy is the dominant Shopify-only cross-sell vendor; their checkout + post-purchase flows are still ahead of MBA's roadmap.
If your priority is squeezing the AOV ceiling on Shopify Checkout specifically, Rebuy will get you there faster than MBA right now.
If your priority is consistent cross-platform infra (WC + Magento + Shopify, same data layer), or you don't want a GMV-scaled bill, MBA is the right call.
Most stores don't need both, Rebuy if you want managed-and-scaled, MBA if you want flat-and-transparent.
MBA's Shopify FBT + bundle push is a good fit for stores under $4M GMV that want predictable pricing and a real-bundle integration. Rebuy's GMV-tiered pricing makes more sense above that threshold if you also need checkout upsells.
Frequently asked, MBA vs Rebuy
Does MBA replace Rebuy entirely?
Not on the post-purchase / checkout-extension surface. Rebuy's mature there. MBA wins on PDP, cart-page, and bundle discovery, and on every adjacent platform (WooCommerce, Magento, OroCommerce). Many stores run both during a transition window, then settle on the one whose surface they care most about.
What about Rebuy Monetize?
Rebuy Monetize is the Fluent-powered ad placement product they launched as a separate revenue stream. MBA does not ship a third-party-ad monetization surface and is not planning one, our position is that mixing third-party ads into recommendation slots dilutes the merchant's brand surface.
Is the per-impression billing actually a problem at small store sizes?
Below ~1,500 PDP views per month it's noise. Past that, the math compounds. At 50,000 views per month the Smart Cart impression charges materially exceed MBA's $49 flat, and the gap widens linearly above that.
Does MBA work with Shopify Bundles?
Yes. MBA pushes bundles via the productBundleCreate Admin API, so the bundles ship as native Shopify Bundle products through Shopify's own checkout + fulfillment infrastructure. They're not JS widget overlays.
What about Hydrogen / headless storefronts?
Rebuy ships React components designed for Hydrogen. MBA exposes a REST API + MCP server you'd call from your own components. If your team is already building Hydrogen UIs, Rebuy's ergonomics are nicer out of the box; if you've got the React chops, MBA's API is straightforward to wire up and you avoid the GMV bill.
Can I migrate from Rebuy to MBA without losing existing bundle products?
Yes. Rebuy's bundle widgets sit on top of the cart; switching them off doesn't change your Shopify catalog. MBA's bundle push creates real native Bundle products that persist independently. You can run both during the transition and turn Rebuy off when you're comfortable.
