When MBA wins

You want the recommendations computed from your actual order history (support/confidence/lift, profit-aware ranking), turned into real catalog bundles, and callable by AI shopping agents, including on BigCommerce.

When Native Recommender by Peasisoft wins

You run a single BigCommerce store and just want attractive, theme-matched upsell/cross-sell/FBT boxes where you hand-pick the products, at the lowest entry price with a proven marketplace track record.

FeatureMBANative Recommender by Peasisoft
Source of recommendations
Mined from your own order history. Six engines: sql_pairs, fp_growth (default), seasonal_cohort, return_aware, profit-aware HUI, ai_catalog LLM cold-start, plus a co_occurrence fallback. Every rule carries support, confidence, and lift.
Merchant-curated. You paste a CSS class into the page and hand-pick which products appear in each offer. 'Frequently Bought Together' is a widget layout, not co-purchase math.
Storefront widget UX on BigCommerce
Functional widgets across our five platforms; less BigCommerce-specific theme polish than a single-platform specialist.
Native-looking, non-intrusive, theme-matched widgets honed over years on BigCommerce. Full design customization (fonts, colors, button text, templates, custom CSS), no theme editing required.
Entry price
Free $0 tier on every platform. Paid is Plus $99/mo flat (or ~$79/mo on annual). Flat, no GMV or revenue share.
Free $0 tier (400 views/mo), then $14.99-$49.99/mo metered by offer impressions. Cheaper to start for a small BigCommerce store.
Profit / margin awareness
HUI engine ranks rules by margin contribution; Opportunities feed (Top, High-Margin, Emerging, Underperforming Attach) flows into Bundle Proposals.
None. Offers report impressions, revenue, conversions, and conversion rate after the fact, but nothing optimizes for margin.
Placements / touchpoints covered
PDP, cart, checkout experiments, post-purchase, plus homepage recs and search re-rank, with substitutions and out-of-stock fallbacks.
PDP, cart, cart drawer/slider, and thank-you page. Solid core coverage; thank-you-page offers can't carry discounts (a BigCommerce API constraint).
Built-in A/B testing of offers
Checkout experiments and configurable engine/thresholds, but not a turnkey per-widget A/B harness for storefront offers today.
Dedicated, built-in A/B testing for offer widgets, with a documented help category for it.
Real catalog bundles vs impressions
Creates actual bundle/kit products: SKU, pricing strategy, AI-generated copy, draft-to-live lifecycle, and conversion attribution.
Widget-only. Shows recommendation and FBT impressions (FBT now supports more than three products) but does not create real bundle SKUs.
Agent-native surface (API / MCP / ACP)
Public REST API, a 19-tool agent-callable MCP server usable by any MCP host, and ACP discovery + endpoints. Default models claude-haiku-4-5 / gpt-4o-mini, selectable up to claude-opus-4-8 / claude-sonnet-4-6 / gpt-4.1.
None. No public API, no MCP server, no ACP endpoints. Invisible to AI shopping agents.
B2B capabilities
B2B-aware mining with a B2B-native OroCommerce build and cross-store insights.
Consumer-only. No quote/RFQ bundles, reorder prediction, company hierarchy, or contract pricing. Offers do support customer-group pricing display.
Track record on BigCommerce
Newer entrant; listings still maturing. We ship on five platforms including BigCommerce, but we don't yet match a single-platform incumbent's install base.
Mature footprint: ~2,700+ merchants on this app, ~4.9-5.0 stars with 100+ reviews, featured app, and a 2021 BigCommerce Technology Award (3rd place).

MarketBasketAnalysis

Flat, transparent plan pricing: Free ($0) and Plus $99/mo flat (or ~$79/mo on annual). One paid plan, everything in it. These are product plans, not per-platform prices, and the same plans apply across every platform. Metered on capability and compute, never on GMV. No revenue share, no add-ons.

The honest verdict

1

Different intent. Native Recommender is a display tool: you decide what goes in the upsell/cross-sell/FBT box, it renders it natively and cheaply on BigCommerce. MBA is a discovery tool: it mines your order history and tells you what actually sells together, ranked by lift and margin.

2

If you're a single BigCommerce store that just wants polished, hand-curated upsell widgets with built-in A/B testing at a low flat price, Peasisoft is a fine, proven pick, and its native-theme UX and marketplace track record beat ours there today.

3

MBA's wedge: explainable six-engine co-purchase math (sql_pairs, fp_growth, seasonal_cohort, return_aware, profit-aware HUI, ai_catalog cold-start), plus a co_occurrence fallback, profit-aware ranking, real catalog bundles with attribution, and substitutions, none of which a manual widget offers.

4

Only MBA is agent-native: a REST API, a 19-tool MCP server (18 off Shopify) any MCP host can call, and ACP endpoints, plus the same intelligence across five platforms (Shopify, BigCommerce, WooCommerce, Magento, OroCommerce) and a B2B layer Peasisoft doesn't touch.

5

Honest caveat: Peasisoft's help docs look stale (last updated ~3-4 years ago) and its view-metered pricing can soft-cap a high-traffic store, but if manual control on one platform is all you need, algorithmic mining is overkill.
